The local Tuolumne County Resource Conservation District (TCRCD) has a project that provides both technical and financial assistance. It starts with a professional assessment of each participant’s current water and land use. That leads to a Best Management Practice plan that can include rainwater harvesting, greywater to landscape, infiltration earthworks, rain-gardens, lawn and turf alternatives, and watershed appropriate plantings.
But beyond just planning, the TCRCD helps landowners to actually install the the features outlined in their plan by providing construction guidance and assistance with material acquisition. Finally, landowners are encouraged to apply for a rebate on any rainwater tanks that are installed. Through the TCRCD efforts, the goal is to improve drainage, reduce flooding, decrease water use, and increase water security within our region.
This project was made possible through a grant from the Tuolumne-Stanislaus Integrated Regional Water Management (IRWM) collaborative. CSERC is a founding member of the Tuolumne-Stanislaus IRWM, and has played a role in support of projects such as this. TCRCD’s project will be accepting applications through December. More information can be found at watertoolkit.org.
Regional residents can also see TCRCD workshops on rainwater harvesting during the Sonora Home & Garden Show April 13th and 14th at the Mother Lode Fairgrounds.
