It started in 1990 with a single slide show that featured pictures of wildlife in the local forest. CSERC’s programs for schools and community groups grew steadily – reaching thousands of participants a year. The first slide shows were given to individual classes at elementary schools or to church or community groups. Today, with school assemblies presented across a broad area of Central California, CSERC has already reached more than 142,000 total participants with free programs about water, forests, Yosemite Park, fire ecology, and wildlife.Perhaps equally impressive has been CSERC’s role as a key voice for nature with the media over the past 25 years. Due to the Center’s involvement in every major environmental issue affecting the local region, reporters, TV crews, and radio stations have grown to rely on CSERC for quotes and timely information. Almost every week CSERC is contacted by the media for our environmental perspective, totaling over 2,500 media contacts to date.
