Aquatic Biologist Meg Layhee strengthens the staff

When we recently celebrated 25 years as a non-profit, our board of directors praised the rich diversity of dedicated staff that has worked for CSERC. Each has brought unique talents and experience as they have poured their energy and passion into the Center’s extensive range of programs and efforts. All have accepted limited compensation in order to make a meaningful difference for the region.

When Lindsey moved on to find new adventures in the Rockies, we ended up with 115 applicants for her biologist position. After two months of intensive review of every resume and cover letter, we held interviews with six top-ranked finalists. Meg Layhee, an aquatic biologist with USGS and the Forest Service, was selected to join our CSERC team. Meg’s background includes years of research and lots of fieldwork focused on fish, amphibians, and macro-invertebrates.

Meg received both her M.S. and B.S. degrees from California State University, Chico, and she’s authored numerous peer-reviewed publications. She enjoys hiking, backpacking, and trail running – especially with her dogs.

We are lucky to be able to add her to our staff as we deal with hydroelectric license conditions that affect salmon and steelhead and as we deal with range management issues that directly affect threatened amphibians. At hearings, field sessions, or in our written comments submitted to agency decision-makers, the credibility and professional expertise of the CSERC staff clearly matters.

Donations from CSERC members like you provide the funding that allows our staff to monitor streams and meadows, engage in collaborative processes, attend countless meetings, present slide shows to thousands of young people, and serve as a respectful, pivotal watchdog for the region.
