Central Sierra Environmental Resource Center

Those of us at CSERC are very excited and grateful to be starting the New Year with the addition of Rebecca Cremeen to our small staff. Since staff biologist Brenda Whited left our Center in May to move to Northern California, John, Lindsey, and Julia have been struggling to keep up with an especially intense workload. With an educational background that includes a BA in Geography and a Masters in City and Regional Planning, Rebecca is an excellent match for CSERC's staff needs. In recent years, she worked in the community as a county planner, as an environmental educator for outdoor schools, and as a program director for the Tuolumne River Trust. Using those skills, she also served on CSERC's Board of Directors and helped with forest fieldwork.

Growing up on California's Central Coast, Rebecca developed a passion for the outdoors at a young age, hiking in the Coastal Range around Santa Barbara. As she continued her education, field classes in the Sierra Nevada steered her in the direction of conservation, while her sense of adventure guided her towards the Peace Corps in Honduras and the Dominican Republic where she became fluent in Spanish. After moving to Tuolumne County, her time outdoors naturally led her to taking advantage of the excellent recreation opportunities our region offers. She became an avid climber and backpacker, and enjoys seeking out the excellent swimming holes in our region's rivers as well as reading environmental literature.

As our Planning Specialist, Rebecca will take on many key tasks such as reviewing environmental planning documents, writing and providing comments for CSERC, and testifying at meetings. She'll also be helping with our wide range of field work. We look forward to the strength, insight, and leadership that Rebecca will add to CSERC's efforts.
